Purim at Yavneh was a celebration of strength, spirit, and simcha (joy).
Our 8th graders (Kitah Chet) read the Megillah and performed their very own Purim Shpiel with confidence, creativity, and heart. Our students – in their amazing costumes – went on our own Purim Parade through the offices and pre-school. Kitah Chet then guided the school through interactive stations centered on the four mitzvot of Purim: hearing the Megillah, exchanging mishloach manot (gifts), enjoying a festive seudah (meal), and giving matanot la’evyonim (gifts to the poor). This year, students created heartfelt Purim cards to accompany gifts for local Holocaust survivors in partnership with PJ Library of Silicon Vally through a program of JFS Silicon Valley, who will distribute the packages to those in need.
The Yavneh staff helped out by running this month’s Keshet of Kavod midah (value) – simcha (joy) – and explained how it differs from happiness. The Shinshinim also threw a party for our middle school students to celebrate the holiday.
The celebration continued with Purim After Dark — DJ, dancing, and a BBQ — ending the day uplifted, united, and reminded that even in the face of challenge, our tradition teaches us to choose courage, generosity, and simcha.
