In Yavneh News

This week at Yavneh Day School, we marked the transition from Yom HaZikaron to Yom HaAtzmaut with deep reflection and joyful celebration.

On Monday evening, our community gathered for Erev Shirei Zikaron, a moving evening of song honoring Israel’s fallen soldiers. Thank you so much to all of you who sang, played instruments, and made meaningful recipes with memories (“Matkom Im Zikaron”) in honor of fallen soldiers. Yesterday, 4th–8th grade students, parents, and community members came together for a powerful Yom HaZikaron ceremony, led by our 5th and 6th graders. We began with the lowering of the Israeli flag and the singing of Hatikvah, standing together in love and solidarity. We’re especially grateful to the parents who visited classrooms to share their experiences in the IDF, offering personal insight into the meaning of the day.

Today, we celebrated Yom HaAtzmaut with joy and pride. The day began with raising the Israeli flag and a reading of the Megillat HaAtzmaut by our 7th and 8th graders. Students enjoyed a lively quiz bowl and visited learning stations with Israeli food including falafel, games, crafts, and dancing. We ended with a spirited all-school performance on the field.

Thank you to our incredible parent volunteers, Hebrew team, and Shinshinim for making this week so meaningful and special.
