In Yavneh News

At Yavneh, we use our Keshet of Kavod to help students cultivate social and emotional awareness and moral character. קשת Keshet means rainbow in Hebrew and כבוד Kavod means respect. Each year we articulate a set of overarching middot/character traits – one for every color of the rainbow – to focus on as individuals and as a community. When put together, they build our Yavneh Keshet of Kavod: Rainbow of Respect.

In Jewish tradition, the rainbow is a symbol of keeping a promise to behave in a more ethical way.

This year the community voted on six middot with a focus on which attributes we need to develop at this particular moment in history, as we live through turbulent times.

8th-grade leaders in Kitah Chet announced the middot/character traits of the year with a fun, football-themed skit at our recent Kabbalat Shabbat. For the remainder of the year, they will lead the entire school in monthly, middot-themed learning and activities.

This year’s middot are:

Gratitude –

Kindness and Compassion –
