Vanina Sandel

STEAM Director and Teacher

Vanina directs our programming for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM). She helps teachers implement their curriculum according to the state standards and beyond. She is also the lead Science teacher in the fourth and fifth grades and supports technological integration in all subject areas. Vanina offers a wide variety of middle school elective classes that include coding, broadcasting, robotics, 3D printing, and Design Thinking, to name a few.

I don’t know if it is my favorite one, but not that long ago I read “Anxious People,” and I like it a lot!

Your most epic teaching moment:
It is when students have that face of accomplishment of their work or a connection that a student makes about a topic in STEAM and the world! When it “clicks.”

Why you love teaching at Yavneh:
I like the possibility that I have of creating new content and trying new things. I love it when I can combine STEAM with Judaism.

Highlight of the week:
Most recently, finishing the Social Entrepreneurship class.

Favorite subject to teach:
So many to choose from since I teach K-8. I have many favorite ones.
