Yavneh Parent Association

Parents are our Partners - Parent Participation

Yavneh welcomes the involvement of entire families in the school community. Parents volunteer in the classroom, participate in holiday celebrations, provide input on school-wide issues, and raise money to strengthen and broaden school programs and to ensure that families from all economic backgrounds may receive the benefit of a Yavneh education.

The goals of the YPA are:

  • To support an interactive relationship among parents, staff and the Board of Directors.
  • To promote a sense of community and common interests among the families of Yavneh.
  • To sponsor activities that will bring students, parents and faculty closer together.

Activities and Events

The YPA plans a variety of activities and events throughout the year to promote a sense of community (ruach and keshet).  These include:

  • Staff Appreciation Week
  • End-of-Year Ice Cream Social
  • Yearbook
  • Pizza in the Hut
  • Restaurant of the Month
  • Scholastic Book Fair
  • Spring Breakfast

Family Education

At Yavneh, we are committed to educating families in Jewish thought and practice. The Yavneh Parent Association (YPA) and the school administration create community-building activities with Jewish content, as well as adult learning opportunities. We also sponsor grade-level milestone events for students and their families (such as the Alef Siddur presentation). Our goal is to empower families to become partners with teachers and rabbis in transmitting Jewish heritage and tradition to our children.

Room Parents

Room parents support teachers with special activities and events and providing school-wide information to other parents in the class. Room parents serve as liaisons between the teachers and the other parents.  PPC's are earned for this position.  Generally, there are two room parents per class.

Parent Participation Credits (PPCs)

Parent participation is critical to the success of our school.  Each family is required to earn 25 Parent Participation Credits (PPCs) during the school year. Some PPCs may be earned by working in your child's classroom, serving on the Board of Trustees or as a committee chairperson, becoming an officer of the YPA, or assisting in the school office. The majority of PPCs, however, are expected to be earned through direct assistance in fundraising efforts. To learn more about how to earn PPCs, please email the YPA at ypa@yavnehdayschool.org or Randi Lamb, Office Administrator, at randi@yavnehdayschool.org.
