As part of the 4th-grade curriculum, Mr. C’s students learn about California. They learn about California’s history, geography, topography, economy, and other elements that make our state unique. Currently, the class is learning how to interpret information presented from different types of maps. Kitah Dalet is working on a project where they are creating their own three-dimensional elevation map of the state. In order to begin their maps, they learned how to make play-doh from scratch in a lab setting, learning about measurements and mixtures. This is a great example of the integrated curriculum here at Yavneh. This way of teaching deepens learning and provides opportunities for students to make authentic connections, not only across school subjects but also in their own lives and the world around them.
