Yael KarmiDirector of Hebrew

Yael Karmi, a native Israeli, has served as the head of the Los Gatos Campus of Beged Kefet Hebrew School since 2019. She wrote curricula and mentored, trained, and supported teachers in their work. She has led innovative and collaborative programs, such as the Short Story Competition, in which students’ stories were published at BaInianim – a local magazine in Hebrew.

Yael has over 18 years of experience teaching Hebrew and Judaic Studies to children and adults at the APJCC in Los Gatos, in local synagogues such as Shir Hadash and Beth Am, and in Beged Kefet. As a teacher she has enjoyed engaging students through art, movement, games, yoga, creative writing, theater, and more. She loves the interactions with her students and seeing their pride in their achievements.

Yael has a BA in literature and philosophy, as well as a teaching credential from Tel Aviv University. Additionally, she holds a Master’s degree in Art History from San Jose State University.

She lives in Scotts Valley with her husband, her daughter, and Milo the cat. She enjoys hiking, reading, traveling, visiting museums, and spending time with her friends and her family. Yael’s other passions are art and art history. She has taught art history and art appreciation at De Anza College in Cupertino since 2006.
