PrayerStudents explore theological concepts • Structure and themes of the daily prayer service • Forming personal connections to the Tefilah experience • Kabbalat Shabbat • Liturgy for Sukkot, Pesach and Shavuot HebrewYavneh offers multiple levels of Hebrew instruction, from beginning to advanced, across middle school grade levels. Standard grade 7 level curriculum includes: Conjugating five verb types into past, present, and future tense • Conjugating prepositions • Continued strengthening of writing skills • Classical and modern literary texts Judaic StudiesIn-depth study of Joshua, Shoftim (Judges), Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs and Ruth • Students study the Mishnah and Rabbinic commentaries • History: Second Temple period, Talmudic period, Middle Ages, Golden Age of Spain, the Holocaust • Students learn about the four holy cities of Israel • Students examine the historical context, meaning and spirit of the Chagim (holidays) • Students explore Jewish identity, ritual and comparative Judaism • Students discuss the Jewish concept of Messiah • Strengthening students’ connection to Israel through study, discussion, and activities based on the geography, current events and culture of the State of Israel • Tzedakah, g’milut hasadim, ethics and values |
