Standard grade 6 level curriculum includes: Use of present, past and future tenses of whole, simple verbs • Conjugating pronouns and correctly use the feminine and masculine forms of nouns and adjectives • Learning Hebrew through scenarios of daily life, as well as literary themes relevant and interesting to early adolescents Judaic StudiesIn-depth study of Joshua, major prophets and Esther • Students study the life, times and commentary of Rashi, demonstrating their knowledge and skills by conducting a “Rashi Learn-In” for family and friends • Students study Midrash • Students examine the historical context, meaning and spirit of the Chagim (holidays) • Students explore Jewish identity, ritual and comparative Judaism • Students discuss the Jewish concept of Messiah • Students explore the issues, emotions and process involved in becoming a Bar/Bat Mitzvah • Students strengthen their personal connection to Israel through exploration and discussion of modern Israeli politics and culture • Students examine ancient and modern Israel • Tzedakah, g’milut hasadim, ethics and values |
