Yavneh's tuition fees cover less than 80% of its costs. We are grateful to the many parents and community supporters whose charitable contributions sustain Yavneh and help it grow.

Every Supporter is Needed and Valued

Building the Jewish Future Takes a Community

All members of the Yavneh Day School community are responsible for the strength and success of the school. Yavneh’s goal is to provide the best academic programs in general and Jewish studies, taught in a caring, supportive environment in which each student can grow academically, emotionally, physically and spiritually.

Fulfilling Yavneh’s mission is a challenge not only to the administration and faculty, but also to the parents of our students and to members of the larger community who recognize and appreciate the value of a Jewish day school education.

Our community bears collective responsibility for the fiscal well being of Yavneh. Quality education is expensive, and tuition does not cover the full cost of a child’s education. Additional funds are crucial to maintaining and improving the quality of the program as well as ensuring that a Yavneh education is affordable to the greatest number of families.

Philanthropic supporters of Yavneh are investors in a successful enterprise both in Jewish education from which the entire Jewish community benefits, and in an outstanding general education from which the larger community benefits.

Yavneh's Annual Campaign

Through the school's annual campaign, members of the Yavneh community raise funds from family, friends, and business associates to provide money for programs that supplement the school’s curriculum and for scholarships.

All Yavneh families are encouraged to contribute and to spread their excitement about Yavneh to others through individual contact, personal letters, and our annual phone-a-thon. We strive for 100% parent participation in our Annual Campaign.

It is through the Annual Campaign that we reach out to all of our communities, from parents to extended families to the Jewish community and the general community as well. This effort provides not only important funds for the school, but is an excellent opportunity to educate community members about Yavneh.

25th Anniversary Campaign

Yavneh's 25th year gave the 2006-2007 fiscal year its fundraising impetus. Donors were asked to consider a 25% increase over their previous gift. We also welcomed 10 individuals who joined our "25 for 25" group by making a gift of $25,000 or more in recognition of the school's anniversary. A very successful spring celebration — which was held at the JCC on May 20, 2007 — had an anniversary theme: "From Silver to Gold: Foundation for the Future." Finally, a special anniversary donor wall will be installed soon acknowledging all gifts of $1,000 or more made in fiscal year 2007.

Tuition Assistance Funds

The largest need for donated dollars is to support the school's tuition assistance program. Our goal is to keep Yavneh accessible to as many families as possible. Currently, nearly 40% of our families receive some form of assistance.

There are four ways to direct your donations to meet this specific need:

  • Unrestricted donations, which we can allocate for tuition assistance as needed.
  • Yavneh's Tuition Assistance Fund, seeded with grants from the Myra Reinhard Family Foundation.
  • The Bernard Slavitt Memorial Scholarship Fund, established at the Jewish Federation of Silicon Valley by Bonnie Slavitt-Moore and Jack Moore.
  • The Chai Endowment Fund, created on the occasion of the school's 18th anniversary, with proceeds going to fund tuition assistance needs.

Special Funds

In addition to the funds above, Yavneh has been the beneficiary of several named funds, dedicated to supporting different aspects of the School. We are grateful for the following:

  • The Hurley Award for Gemilut Chassadim, named in memory of Daniel Hurley and funded by Michael Hurley and Dr. Judith Lessow-Hurley. The Award is given annually to a student in the Kitah Hay class who “best exemplifies kindness, kavod, and menschlichkeit, especially toward younger children."
  • The Library Fund, named in memory of Harold Witkin and seeded by a gift from Geraldyne Witkin
  • The Music Fund, established by Karen Ceppos

Tributes

An additional way to raise funds for the school and to mark a special occasion is by a contribution to either the general operating fund of Yavneh or to one of the special funds established to benefit particular programs at Yavneh. Contributions may be made in any amount; often, they are made in increments of $18, a number signifying the Hebrew word meaning “life”. Donations to tribute funds can mark a special occasion such as a wedding, new baby, graduation, special achievement, or in memory of a loved one. Notification of the tribute will be sent to the person(s) the donor wishes to acknowledge, informing them of the donation.

Please send your contributions (by check or credit card) to Yavneh Day School, 14855 Oka Road, Los Gatos, CA 95032, to the attention of Steve Bogad, Head of School. If you have any questions, please call Steve at (408) 357-7471 or email to steve@yavnehdayschool.org.
