A Strong Mind in a Strong Body
Physical Education (P.E.)
The goal of physical education at Yavneh is for every child
value health through fitness and athletic activity. We achieve this through
the diversity of programs and activities offered to the students. Yavneh’s physical education curriculum is based
upon the California Standards for elementary school grades, modified to take advantage
of the unique facilities on our campus, including a swimming pool and
tennis courts.
Students are involved in a variety of physically active
sports from swimming, basketball, soccer and volleyball to strength
and conditioning to running the mile. All activities are age appropriate
and incorporate developing social standards necessary to act as responsible
citizens.
On the Levy Family campus, the athletic resources of the JCC are used
by Yavneh students for such activities as swimming and other sports.
All students enjoy Yavneh's well-outfitted playground.
Students in kindergarten through the fifth grades participate in a
well balanced physical education curriculum that consists of a variety
of skill building and fitness focused activities. The physical education
philosophy employs development of individual and team activities while
supporting positive self-esteem for all students.
The third through fifth grade curriculum includes units that not only
incorporate skills, but that also encompass rules, strategies and sportsmanship.
Students also take part in the Presidential fitness program and are assessed
at the beginning and end of the school year to measure growth and development.
Middle school students can choose from a variety of fitness activities,
both during scheduled Physical Education time (twice weekly) and during
their elective schedule.
All students participate in a special Field Day in celebration of Lag
B’Omer.
After School Athletics Program
For students in grades fifth and up, Yavneh offers a competitive interscholastic
athletic program that participates in the Silicon Valley Athletic
League. The program fosters fair play, sportsmanship, team spirit,
team building, and friendly competition. The ultimate goal of our program
is for each student athlete to have fun while working together with
the team to achieve a common goal.
The athletic program offers co-ed flag football in the fall and basketball
in the winter. Our girls’ volleyball team competes in the fall.
