Educational Overview

Integrated Curriculum

Yavneh's integrated dual curriculum challenges every student to meet the highest standards of academic excellence in General and Jewish studies. Through a wide variety of related activities, students learn how their secular and Jewish lives are intertwined. For example, students learn the Biblical story of Noah in original text and also about animal classification; they examine phases of the moon as it relates to the Jewish calendar; they celebrate Tu B'shevat and engage in a school wide environmental day.

Older students study Rashi and other important Jewish texts on topics such as business ethics and communal responsibility. They learn about ancient Israel in the context of world civilizations. With these methods, students are empowered to make connections between language arts, science, math, geology, social science, geography, culture and religion.

We instill in our children knowledge of Judaism and a commitment to the world Jewish community, to American society and to the State of Israel.

Educational Goals

Students at Yavneh develop a solid academic foundation in language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. Low student to teacher ratios ensure targeted instruction and the full participation of each child.

The curriculum includes daily Hebrew and Judaic studies, with multi-level Hebrew groups to accommodate beginning through advanced learners. Classes in art, technology, music, science lab and physical education complete their schedule.

Yavneh students learn to:

  • Develop a passion for learning
  • Think critically
  • Communicate effectively
  • Explore scientifically
  • Express themselves creatively
  • Read, understand and speak Hebrew
  • Appreciate Jewish heritage and values

Outstanding Faculty

Curriculum is only as good as the teachers who teach it. At Yavneh, our curriculum is taught by experts who care about their students as much as their subject matter. Our dedicated, experienced faculty is committed to the education and personal growth of each child.

Most teachers hold advanced degrees and all regularly update their knowledge through additional coursework, seminars and workshops.

Our low student to teacher ratio means that our faculty comes to know each child extraordinarily well. They assess each child's needs and develop learning programs that enable each child to thrive.

A Record of Success

Yavneh students consistently average above the 90th percentile in national standardized testing. Our graduates are extremely well-prepared for high school and, upon high school graduation, many attend top-level colleges and universities. Moreover, they assume meaningful roles as young adults committed to Judaism, the Jewish people and Israel.

Building a Strong Community

Frequent communication is key to Yavneh's efforts to educate and involve and parents, students, teachers, administrators, and community supporters in the school's programs and goals. At the beginning of each year, families receive a calendar which includes helpful information about school processes and requirements. The student directory facilitates family-to-family interaction, whether for playdates outside of school, car-pooling arrangements, or school-focused communication from room parents.

At the beginnig of the year, students subscribe to the school-wide "Code of Kavod," which sets expectations for appropriate behavior and outlines ways in which Jewish values are implemented in the school. Students are encouraged to participate in mitzvah activities on behalf of for other local agencies, such as Jewish Family Services.

Older students proactively support younger students through a Buddy Program. Younger students learn about upcoming experiences at school through Shadow Days.
