Commitment to ExcellenceMissionYavneh Day School provides academic excellence in General and Judaic studies within a strong community where each child is celebrated and challenged. Our students demonstrate leadership, have a passion for learning and embrace social responsibility. PhilosophyYavneh Day School helps each child realize his or her highest academic potential. Grounded in a nurturing environment that emphasizes a strong Jewish identity, the Yavneh experience challenges students to think, care, and become contributing members of the community. ThinkYavneh students are challenged and inspired to learn. We focus on the positive—encouraging curiosity, creativity, and independent learning. Through an outstanding academic curriculum, Yavneh students are encouraged to become critical thinkers, collaborators, and problem solvers. Our teachers are skilled in differentiation within the classroom and across grade levels, and hands-on, experiential learning is incorporated across academic disciplines. Our goal is to cultivate self-assured students with a lifelong love of learning. CareYavneh integrates Jewish and secular learning to provide students with a multifaceted background from which they can draw when faced with new questions or situations. Boys and girls have the same opportunities in religious observance and ritual, as well as in classroom, athletic, and leadership roles within the school. Both through formal study and extra-curricular activity, the concepts of Tzedakah and Tikkun Olam are values imbued in the student's activity. Students express their commitment to social action and the mandate to help "fix the world" through several programs. "Mitzvah Monkeys" is a group of students who volunteer to do good deeds for the community. The Seventh Grade Tzedakah Project helps B'nai Mitzvah students combine academic study, research about and interviews with public service agencies and charitable organizations, and pragmatic planning for effective fundraising and allocations strategies. We encourage entire families to become involved in the school community. Parents volunteer in the classroom, participate in holiday celebrations, and provide input on school-wide issues. They raise money to strengthen school programs and ensure that families from all economic backgrounds may receive the benefit of a Yavneh education. Family involvement teaches the importance of engagement, compassion, and actively participating in the community—preparing Yavneh graduates for comfortable and informed participation in a pluralistic society. BelongYavneh welcomes students from diverse Jewish backgrounds and families from a wide range of observances. We are affiliated with the Solomon Schechter Day School Association and adopt the norms of Conservative Judaism as interpreted by the larger communal environment in which the school exists. All students are grounded in ritual, sacred texts and joyous experiences of Jewish life. Yavneh also encourages students to reach their highest potential in acquiring a second language. Some students achieve fluency in Hebrew, while others focus on becoming comfortable with Hebrew liturgy used in synagogues and home rituals. In addition, Israel’s creation is a seminal event in Jewish history, and Yavneh emphasizes the special relationship of Jews around the world to the State of Israel. We seek to instill care and a sense of responsibility for the Israeli people and their welfare. As a result, Yavneh students grow to become embraced, celebrated, connected, confident Jews. Yavneh strives to ensure that all school experiences help graduates become confident learners, active community participants and compassionate human beings. |
