PrayerStudents explore theological concepts • Students learn the structure, skills and choreography of tefilot (prayers) • Students learn the full Birkat HaMazon • Students begin learning to chant the Torah trope, demonstrating their mastery by conducting a special Torah Service for family and friends HebrewStudents use the Tal Sela curriculum to review and elaborate upon skills from earlier units and introduce a variety of new skills • Students focus on oral and written communication skills, fluency and expression and grammar • Students further develop location skills, organizational skills, retention skills, interpretation skills, test taking skills and study strategies • Hebrew literature: Students will become familiar with the writing of four major Israeli authors and poets Judaic StudiesStudents engage in an in-depth study of Parshat HaShavua (weekly Torah portion) • Students are introduced to Rabbinic texts: Mishnah, Talmud, Midrash and Commentaries • Students begin their study of Rashi and learn to read Rashi Script, translate his commentaries and work with his methodology of interpreting Torah • Students examine the history and institutions of the American Jewish community • Through experiential approaches students explore the historical context, meaning and spirit of Shabbat and the Chagim (holidays) • Students continuously learn about the State of Israel through current events, connections in curriculum, songs, and personal stories • Students explore the ancient city of Jerusalem, including the City of David and the First Temple • Tzedakah, g’milut hasadim, ethics and values |
