Elementary CurriculumTeaching and NurturingYavneh’s elementary school curriculum is designed to nurture each student’s natural curiosity and sense of wonder. Motivated from within, our children acquire a sense of self and accomplishment that allows for experiences of creativity, independent study, choice, and responsibility. These experiences are reinforced through warm, disciplined classroom environments and loving teachers devoted to enhancing each child’s personal development. Through emphasis on critical and intuitive thinking, as well as analysis and creative problem-solving, our children acquire the intellectual independence essential to succeed in a world of accelerating change. Integrated Dual CurriculumAt Yavneh, elementary school students receive a strong, age-appropriate foundation on which to base their academic careers and Jewish lives. Our curriculum exceeds State standards and provides students with a broad range of educational experiences in language arts, mathematics, social sciences, science, technology, fine arts and athletics. In addition to the core curriculum, the school year is filled with the joy of holiday celebrations, field trips and important school “life cycle” events. One of the central goals of our program is not only to teach basic skills but to inspire our children to be active and engaged learners, to feed their natural curiosity and give them the tools to be independent and self confident learners. As a Solomon Schechter Day School, our students many opportunities for integration and creativity of both general studies and Judaica throughout this dual curriculum. Yavneh’s Jewish Studies program encourages critical thinking, and provides students with fluency and literacy in Hebrew language and Torah, as well as in traditional Jewish texts, skills, values and traditions. Inspiring a Love of LearningYavneh inspires its students to embrace a love of learning so they may grow into literate communicators, self-aware individuals, problem solvers, collaborative workers and lifelong learners. |
