PrayerStudents explore theological concepts • Kitah Alef Siddur Ceremony: Students receive their first Siddur in early Spring • Students learn additional prayers in the morning service HebrewStudents learn the Hebrew letters and vowels and learn how to read and write • Students develop their Hebrew literacy and language skills • Hebrew literature: Students become familiar with the writing of two major Israeli authors and poets Judaic StudiesStudents use Tal-Am interactive booklets to learn about the weekly Torah portion • Through experiential approaches students explore the historical context, meaning and spirit of Shabbat and the Chagim (holidays) • Students celebrate the coming of Shabbat in the classroom and in school-wide Kabbalat Shabbat assemblies • Students are introduced to holiday vocabulary, customs, and songs • Students are introduced to the Jewish life cycle • Students recognize the flag and symbol of Israel and can find Israel on a world map • Tzedakah, g’milut hasadim, ethics and value |
