Admissions Information

New Junior Kindergarten begins in 2008-2009 School Year!

After a careful analysis of our own programs and many conversations with local preschool educators, Yavneh Day School is proud to announce its Junior Kindergarten program beginning in the 2008-2009 school year.

The Junior Kindergarten program will emphasize a developmental approach to learning. It will provide an enriching year of hands-on activities to enhance children's developmental "readiness" for Kindergarten, especially for those with late summer or fall birthdays. This class will be designed as a full day program from 8:30am to 3:30pm and will be included in all of our school-wide activities.

To be eligible for Yavneh's Junior Kindergarten program, your child must be five years of age by December 1, 2008. For information and application, please call Dana Lowy, Director of Admissions, at (408) 984-6700.

Our Director of Admissions, Dana Lowy, can be reached at (408) 984-6700 x. 7474 or dana@yavnehdayschool.org.

General Admission Policy

Yavneh Day School welcomes children from families in which at least one parent is Jewish. Yavneh Day School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, sexual orientation or disability.

Admissions Steps
Attend an Open House

Open Houses are scheduled in late October and early January, and provide the opportunity to see the school, meet teachers and current families, and learn about the school's many programs.

Schedule a School Tour

The best way to learn about a school is to see students and teachers unscripted and “in action.” Individual school tours can be arranged through our admissions office and are held Monday through Thursday mornings.

Complete and Submit an Application

Applications are available for download or may be requested from our admissions office. A non-refundable administrative fee of $100 must accompany your application. Completed applications are due by January 31. Applications received after this date will be considered on a space-available basis.

Tuition Assistance

Yavneh is committed to making a Jewish day school education accessible to every family and offers tuition assistance through a confidential process. Contact the Admissions office to request a Tuition Assistance form. Tuition Assistance applications must be received by January 31 for priority processing. Admissions decisions are independent of tuition assistance requests.

Teacher Recommendations and Transcripts

You will receive a teacher recommendation form after we receive the completed application. The top portion of the form is to be completed by you and then given to your child’s teacher for completion. Students applying for second through seventh grades must also submit school transcripts and will receive a transcript release form to give to your child’s current school. Recommendations and transcripts are due by February 15.

Student Assessment/Shadow Visits

Student assessments to gauge developmental and academic readiness for school are required for admission to kindergarten and first grade at Yavneh. Assessments are held in February and applicants will be contacted in late January to schedule an assessment.

Students applying for grades second through seventh spend a half-day in the classroom shadowing a current student. Shadow days are held from November through February. You will be contacted to schedule a shadow day once we have received your application.

Admission Notification

In cooperation with other Bay Area independent schools, admission notifications, together with an enrollment contract, are mailed on March 15. For students who are admitted, the signed enrollment contract with a non-refundable deposit of $1,000 is due in our school office on March 26.

Tuition for the 2007-2008 school year:

  • Kindergarten through Grade 3: $13,720 per year
  • Grades 4 and 5: $14,175 per year
  • Grade 6-8: $15,435 per year
  • The tuition package includes books and most activity fees.
Parent Participation

Yavneh Day School has an annual parent service requirement of 25 units of service [PPC: Parent Participation Credits] to the school per family. Parents may choose to buy out this requirement at the rate of $40 per hour.

Tuition Assistance

Yavneh is committed to making a Jewish day school education accessible to every family and offers tuition assistance through a confidential process. Yavneh follows the policy of the National Association of Independent Schools using School and Student Services (SSS) or Financial Aid of Princeton, New Jersey to evaluate the applicant family's ability to meet sliding tuition levels. This service assures both discretion and objectivity. The information provided to us by SSS is then adjusted for the high cost of living in the Bay Area.

If you are interested in applying for tuition assistance, please contact the Business Office to request a Tuition Assistance form. Every effort is made to meet the financial needs of applicants. However, because requests often exceed the funds available, it is important to apply as early as possible. Please note that your federal tax return, which is a necessary component of the process, must be submitted very early.

Admissions decisions are always independent of requests for tuition adjustments.
